Putting Pot In Perspective The last two weeks have seen the issue of marijuana grow ops rear its ugly head in Nanton. ...The grow op in question involved nine plants... Last month, Calgary Police Service Sergeant Roger Morrison told landowners at the MD of Ranchland that <b>grow operations are generally the precursor to much worse things, namely funding the devlopment of methaphetamine labs</b>...Pot grow ops may be used to fund meth labs in other places, but it would be great to focus on eliminating the very real problem of meth sellers and abusers in this area. [It's amazing that the cops can keep dreaming up this crap to spew out to the lapdog media, though it looks like it may be a harder sell..] |

LTE: Why Not Legalize Theft, Burglary, Rape? If legalizing is equal to less crimes and less court times, then why not legalize theft, burglary, rape? Our courts would havea less burden and judges can go on longer holidays. We can cut the police force in half and save money. [This so-called logic defies normal intelligence... in the school of life 101, most of us can differentiate between something we do to ourselves versus something done to us by others... BIG DIFFERENCE] |

Marijuana Vs Alcohol - The Straight-Up Dope The California Research Advisory Panel has stated that "[pot] is responsible for less damage to society and the individual than are alcohol and cigarettes." So what's the deal? ... The Canadian Bureau of Justice Statistics finds that more violent crimes are committed under the influence of alcohol than any other drug.... It finds that when it comes to crime, most pot smokers cause no other misdeed than the possession of the pot itself. ... The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse states that nearly half of all car crash deaths involve alcohol. In the United States it's the number one contributing factor in young deaths, and accounts for a quarter of all youth hospital visits. Pot on the other hand, was involved in less than two per cent of drug-related visits to the hospital in 1994. [Common sense tells us alcohol is more dangerous than pot... but then there's politics...] |

Health Critic Calls For End To Pot Mine Federal Health Critic Steven Fletcher is calling on Ottawa to shut down the nation's most famous grow-op. "The government-run marijuana grow-op in Flin Flon, Manitoba, has been a bust. The crop has little medicinal value and may be corrupted by mine contaminants," said Fletcher, speaking in the House of Commons earlier this year. "Will the [Health] Minister shut down the operation or will taxpayers continue to be shafted?" [When you consider the government has spent millions of dollars running a grow op that no one benefits from except the people hired by Health Canada to administrate, while compassion clubs are far more effective and cost taxpayers nothing....] |

Randall Severson admits he kicked the counter in Felger's office. A surprise police sweep at Cardinal Carter secondary school in Leamington resulted in one student being caught with drug paraphernalia and trace amounts of cannabis. [Consider the time, cost, resources, and more importantly the right to terrorize hundreds of students to send a "message", especially since no drugs were found. Concerned Students Tackle Marijuana Issues For Every High, There Is A Low. Think About It. This tag line will be used in upcoming public service announcements by a group of local students who are concerned about marijuana use among their peers, [Having Health Canada provide information about cannabis is the same as the police information - they draw on the same souces for their propaganda and scare-mongering. <p class="bold"><b>Not only will a far larger percentage of teens drive than experiement with drugs or herbs, but all of them will lose far more friends to car crashes, yet how much education do they receive about defensive driving?</b> |

The Cannabis Connoisseur Where wine is concerned, there is much to know...Legions of drinkers pore over the subject as if fact-gathering itself were the addiction. And so it is with another of the world's most popular intoxicants: marijuana. The average pot smoker may not know or care what type of weed is in the dime bag, so long as it gets him lit. But others can't stop obsessing over every detail of the subject from, say, how to produce kick-ass bubble hash from plant debris ( don't throw away those sticks! ) to questions about the Linnaean nomenclature of the subspecies cannabis indica. Pass the Weed, Dad Parents Are Smoking Dope With Their Kids. What Are They Thinking? [Probably the same thing that parents who allow their kids to drink a little wine with dinner or special occasions is - how to responsibly use the substances they will encounter in life. The hypocrasy surrounding pot politics is another sympton of our mainstream alcohol culture. Besides, prohbition has been around so long, many parents smoked with their parents, (even grandparents), so critical mass keeps building. ] |

Toking Diplomacy If you were the guy everyone called the prince of pot and the U.S. drug czar came to town rattling his saber, you'd probably have the sense to stay out of his way. At the very least, you wouldn't go out of your way to antagonize him, let alone pay $500 for the privilege. |

Rolling Stone Article Irks Local Leaders In his article entitled "<a href=http://www.mapinc.org/newstcl/v05/n1587/a02.html">The Tale of Kid Cannabis</a>", Rolling Stone contributing editor Mark Binelli writes: "Rumour had it that the town of Nelson had become a sort of hippie Shangri-La, a place where if you took more than ten minutes to find someone to sell you a dime bag, there was a good chance you were already high." Binelli described Baker Street's Holy Smoke Culture Shop, with its outdoor portrait of reggae legend Peter Tosh " large enough to rival Soviet-era portraits of Lenin," as "a second City Hall." [ Many enterprising kids realize they can make far more money selling pot than be expoited at McJobs. Arming Parents With Facts On Drugs Keeping kids safe from drug abuse is a balancing act in need of adjustment, says RCMP Cpl. Scott Rintoul, the keynote speaker at a Drug Information Night for Parents Nov. 1 in Langford. [A cop teaching drug education is like a doctor teaching the finer points of the law. Why should we listen? Our own experiences of growing up with drugs all around us has equipped us with our own set of "tools" based on personal knowledge, not someone's job security. Parents would be wiser to <a href="http://leap.cc/events/" target="_blank">attend an event that features a cop worth listening too from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP)</a>. ] |
